Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. hits the nail right on the head with his opinion concerning abolishing the future Barangay election. He considers it "divisive, very expensive and counterproductive."

It’s the steadfast stand of Gov. Marañon on aggressive issues that makes me admire him. He is a man cut for our time.

He has a mind of his own as a leader. On Barangay election he swims counterflow on ordinary opinion. He’s not afraid to stand when he thinks he is right. It is the reason why he won the last election despite that all odds are against him.

To stand against a corrupt practice that isn’t working towards a fruitful democratic process, is a gamble. Yet Marañon says his opinion while other traditional politicians are mum on the issue afraid that majority of those who had been used to corruption and gains from it may not go with them politically. Never mind if it leads to a rotten path that will bring forward to an ill nauseating bad winds that may undermine democracy after all. Never mind if the corrupt process is inherited by future politicians who use the same corrupt practices if only to hold on to temporary power. Never mind if it leads to our nation to fall behind from other nations whose practices are not as corrupt as ours.
