Teaching Philippine Literature at Cedar College, I found out how misleading
some of our textbooks being officially used by the schools and students.
Sometime ago, an educator of Miriam College made a statement in the Philippine Daily Inquirer how he gave up on his campaign to correct the many wrong entries on the present textbooks, when his campaign lead to nowhere.
Antonio Calipjo Go wrote a letter of disappointment to the PDI, for instead of the textbook makers to listen to him, some of the printers and authors even brought him to court and instead continued the errors on the textbooks as they were written by Masters and Ph. D’s.
But as my teacher in English at New York, Mrs. Julie Walker once said when a Russian classmate exhibited her PH. D from Russia to prove her points, "Ph. Ds today are one cent a dozen." That is what’s happening to our education in the country today. Many schools become diploma mills of Master’s degree and Ph. Ds.
